Drupalcon London 2011

Drupalcon is over and I am back to work, great times were had and I am motivated to step past a few boundaries in development.

I only got to spend a day at Drupalcon this year, but it was a great day. Most of my knowledge came from chatting to people I speak to everyday anyway, but it was good to discuss integration, versioning and other topics.

Week One Summary

The daily blog has failed somewhat as I was away from home from Friday until Monday evening and too much has happened in those days for me to recall enough to catch up on some daily blog writing.

I had a few days where I wasn't really enjoying my food, but this was mainly due to it being bad food. I had one meal with browning vegetables (which I hate) that I binned followed by several asian meals that didn't quite get it right. I mostly disliked the choice of vegetables (I would have replaced most of the crunchy vegetables in my thai green curry with sweet potato).

Day Four

Breakfast

What's breakfast? Oh, right, coffee.

Lunch

Went to a thai pub in Cambridge, have been here previously and had yummy vegetable pad-thai but everyone is raving about the green curry so I get one of them. The curry and rice were nice, but as far as I am concerned, crunchy vegetables just don't work in curries. It needed some sweet potato or something soft to make it work.

On-wards to the Cambridge beer festival and I decide to try the falafel and hummus wrap which was surprisingly good, the best thing I've eaten in a couple of days.

Day Three

Breakfast

What's breakfast? Oh, right, coffee.

Lunch

Met up with my friend for lunch and headed over to Ping Pong for some dim sum. The food was good enough though I was slightly disappointed. Best thing was the baked puff pastry with vegetables inside. The steamed baby corn and mushrooms was pretty awful.

The waiter caught on to me being a vegetarian and informed me that the chilli sauce was not vegetarian (it contains shrimp paste) which was quite disappointing (as I love that chilli sauce).

Day Two

Breakfast

After my adventure the previous night, I really need to kill tiredness and a hangover, first thing that comes to mind is a Bacon Sandwich, followed about 5 seconds later by the whole vegetarian thing that I am doing.

Some quick tweeting and I have the following excellent suggestions, all things I have done before:

  • Fried Egg Sandwich
  • Egg and Beans on Toast

Sadly I was so late for work, all I had was coffee ;-)

Day One

My first day of being a vegetarian went really well, which was expected anyway as I have never been obsessed with meat.

Breakfast

What's breakfast?

Lunch

At lunch, I went to a chinese restaurant with people from work and had some nommy deep fried tofu with stir fried vegetables and rice. It was meant to be salty and peppery, which it wasn't but this was easily fixed with soy sauce.

Dinner

For dinner, at the Cambridge beer festival I had nommy cheese, bread and some of the nicest olives I have had so far.

Vegetarian Week

I am participating in Vegetarian Week. I had planned on doing this anyway but it turns out that I've magically managed to schedule it for the same time as an official awareness week. Go me!

A week isn't really long enough, so I am doing two!
